Dr. Tony McDonald is an Assistant Professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and the director of the Human Factors and Machine Learning Lab. His research focuses on identifying synergies between human factors methods and models and machine learning that can be used to improve health outcomes and transportation safety. Dr. McDonald was a recipient of the 2019 Human Factors Award for Excellence in Human Factors Research for innovative application of Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning to Human Factors, and the 2020 Stephanie Binder Young Professional Award from the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society for outstanding early career contributions to transportation safety research. He was previously an Assistant Professor and Corrie and Jim Furber ’64 Faculty Fellow at Texas A&M University. Between 2014 and 2017, he worked as a Senior Software Engineer and Manager of Software Development at the Oracle Corporation. He received his MS and PhD in Industrial Engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2012 and 2014, respectively, and his SB in Mechanical Engineering from MIT in 2010.
